Thanks for all the advice, I shall continue my Mode C squawkings wherever possible.
I think the autopilot mode change bit is perhaps a matter of Company procedures.. if one is in say Nav mode, perhaps SOP's dictate a V/S mode if you get a TA ? RA's usually require autopilot disconnection anyway so do not apply.
