Its been said many times before on this board and by now only the most naive amongst us must realise, that Peel Holdings' long term plan for this site is to develop an industrial/business park, which is why the recent planning applications have all been approved. The construction of the Long Newton interchange will also facilitate this development.
Whether the airport survives as a going concern in the medium term depends solely on the Airlines, not the airports management.Only the heads of BMI, Globespan, ryanair can make those decisions. The Evening Gazette and the local worthies can make all the noise they wish, but in the real world of business and profitability what happens down at Teesside is of little significance to the airlines.
