Maybe there are more male pilots because we're more willing to spend money we don't have chasing something like a PPL?? Women are far more sensible..
I'm not claiming to have a scientific sample, but talking to my friends I've found that all of the women think I'm nuts to spend so much money on flying, while a few of the men understand why I do it - although most of them think I'm nuts too.
