Agree on both fronts - a) you're being double-chargedo n the VAT and b) most clubs have arrangements for students not to be charged landing fees at home-base! Try British Airways Flying Club -
http://www.bafc.co.uk - its located at Wycombe, and open to non-BA staff (like me)... very professional standards and lovely aircraft.
