In the Royal Flying Corps during the first world war, pilots had to smother their faces with evil smelling fish oil to prevent them from getting frostbite at altitude. Failure to do so, resulting in frostbite, was seen as self-inflicted injury and was punishable with execution by firing squad.

Aircraft do not normally land themselves, but in this case it would have been infinately preferable. From the information gathered it appears the pilot stuffed up big style (hell! I've had bad landings.. I'm never once blamed Cessna for my temporary inability to use common sense!). This accident was self-inflicted, can't they just shoot him and be done with it?

Fly safely
