(1) Legally no insurance is required in the UK, although if you take it out - 3rd party will only be a few hundred quid a year, and full hull around 6-8% of value per year. I believe that UK CAA rules will restrict you to day VMC.. .. .(2) I think you can fly on this with no problems at-all.. .. .(3) Best bet is to phone CAA Flight Crew Licensing on a speakerphone (because it'll take 30 minutes to get through to a human being) and ask them.
