I flew the flight that you are refererring to in October 1998 in a PBY. It was surles traces de L'Aeropostale, Toulouse - Santiago. Africa there are some important things you must be aware of. The most important is Sand - Dust storms called the Harmatten that occurs during winter months in the Sahara. It is extreemly dangerous to be caught in this weather phenomenon as it can wipe out thousands of miles of Northern Africa.
