Just checked both Collins Concise and Oxford for definition of "boutique". Neither define it to mean 'regional'.
However, both define boutique as meaning a small shop, esp. those selling clothes. Have SIL (and LLAO) stumbled upon the real way to make money?
That said it could be a very reasonable analogy; boutiques are, after all, usually overpriced and offer little by way of choice!
