Maybe you`re confusing pilot testing/screening and putting newhires through typeratings and training? In large orginazations this usually takes time. Up to several months at times. But, of course, all pilots who are already employed (ref Q400 pilots doing other ratings now) and those who were furloughed will have the right of way before anybody else.

Just curious Mr.T, why should the SAS unions fight for your salary to be back where it belongs? And, out of curiosity, where does it belong?
That being said, yes, SAS pilots have always, and hopefully always will, set the norm regarding pilot wages and benefits in Scandinavia
