Windows Media Player 11: inability to modify tags/rate files vs system date

Morning all, a quirk for you. Have been working my way slowly but surely through my music collection to rate all the tracks & drag all the file info/titles/album art up to date. A long ongoing process.

Randomly the other day I noticed that my windows (xp sp2) clock was set to the wrong date (a month ahead) so I changed it back to the correct date. Shortly afterwards, I went back to my music and was unable to rate files, or modify tags. Right clicking gives you a greyed out "edit" box, whilst advanced edit lets you change things but clicking apply earns you a "Windows Media Player cannot perform the requested action. Your computer's time and date might not be set correctly" error message.... Changing the date back to a month ahead resolves this issue...

I suspect this is something to do with DRM, but am entirely confident that none of my tracks are DRM'd... answers on a postcard!
