747 Simulator Techniques -

I live half of my pilot life training people in 747-200 simulators...
Steep turns are performed at 45º bank and 280 KIAS.
Anywhere in the world in 747 simulators... No 60º bank...
Unless CX is qualified for acrobatics...
Including with Air Mickey Mouse at Disney World Airlines and others.

To perform such 280/45º steep turn - establish steady level flight at 280.
Bank the sim SLOWLY, and DO NOT USE PITCH TRIM for this maneuver.
Upon passing through 30º bank, increase pitch 1 dot above 5º pitch.
At the same time, increase power 1/2 knob.
Accurate speed control better maintained with Mach number indicator, not KIAS.
Fine tune speed adjustement 1/2 knob with the INBOARD engines only.
Ask PNF to give you a call 20º heading prior to completion of 180º heading change.
To do the turn in the opposite direction, DO NOT STOP at LVL flight.
Continue your change of turn direction/bank WITHOUT power changes.
It is easier to go from one direction to the other immediately.

ILS, at glide slope alive, call for gear down, then at 3 greens, call flaps 25.
Fly the glide slope with brief "clicks" on the pitch trim.
Again, fine tune of Vref speed using small INBOARD engine power corrections.
If getting too slow, slight power increase on ALL engines, then back, 2 seconds later.

Good luck to you - You owe me a San Miguel, or Tsin Tao.

Happy contrails
