Myself, i could never understand why plates are not standardised IATA or ICAO. The chaps that use then in anger know the codes, either or would be fine.
How an airport chooses to market itself to the SLF is it's own affair. EGNX will at some point consider London North or Manchester South, depends what the LoCos want to achieve.
I'm not bitter, just could not find many an airport in Jepps (in particular) due to the tendency to use airport name.
Now, is 'Freddy Eastwood International' Southend, Halfpenny Green or Cardiff?
