nav techniques

Draw the wind direction in bold pencil on your map. Good cue for a forced landing or diversion.

If writing while flying and one of the wings drop. Correct with rudder, it will pick the wing up nicely and allow you to keep flying.

Your four fingers are 40nm on a WAC, 20nm on a VNC, and 10 on a VTC. Helps to accurately estimate distances when you lose the WAC ruler.

Diversions, think of it like a clock and multiply by 30. If it looks like the 2 oclock position its 60 degrees etc.

Your groundspeed divided by 10 is how many miles you will travel in 6 minute increments. i.e 128 knots is 13 miles every 6 minutes.

Keep the map up and oriented towards North.

Highlight the headings on your flightplan so you dont fly a groundspeed.
