yes you are right in stating that the FAA license is an ICAO approved license , but the difference in theorotical knowledge required to pass the FAA ATP written and a JAA or Indian/aussie etc etc written is enormous.If you ask an average FAA ATP holder the formulae to calculate convergence or gyroscopic topple , he/she would give you a what the #$%^ look....

As far as flying skills are concerned , there's nothing much to seperate FAA /CAA/JAA flyers although you might find the odd , "we r the best flyer types" ......yes FAA licensed flyers are everywhere and they're as good as pilots licensed elsewhere.....
