AFAIK, it was an RAF "Motorboat" base. I remember having a "Trip 'round the Harbour" in 1962, whilst in the ATC. Iwas also "Detatched" there in 1968 as part of the radar trials at RAF Staxton Wold[sp?]. I was also co-erced into being a linesman there...although I knew nowt about "football", still don't, 'cos I'm a Man City fan.....
