CBC.CA, sorry to hear.

A helicopter carrying skiers from British Columbia's backcountry crashed near Golden on Thursday, killing the pilot, police said.

The RCMP said reports were received about a downed helicopter in the Canyon Creek area at about 3:30 p.m. local time Thursday.

Operated by Purcell Helicopter Skiing Ltd. of Golden, the chopper that went down was carrying the pilot, two staff members and six other passengers. At least two of the passengers were foreigners, said police.

Police said the helicopter crashed so quickly that the impact broke off its blades.

The 44-year-old pilot, from Revelstoke, was killed in the crash, while the two male staff members were injured — one remains in stable condition in hospital. None of the others aboard the helicopter were badly injured.

Severe weather conditions will likely prevent retrieval of the pilot's body from the accident scene until Friday.

Officials with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are working with the coroner's office, said police.
