There's a psychological technique for getting your own way called anchoring. Suggest to your girlfriend something that appears to be a bigger commitment than flight training that she would absolutely never agree to like I'm going astronaut training in Azerbaijan for 5 years because thats my dream. Once she regects that say that you'll comprimise by just doing flight training for a year she'll be so glad you're not going away for 5 years that she'll agree to anything.
