I did 8 months in the desert in 2003. Mrs GF asked the local council if we were entitled to a rebate and the response was "you will only get a rebate if your husband has been in prison!". This didn't surprise me too much as one of the Sqn Sgt's had left on redundancy the year before and was told, by the local council where he wanted to live in his native NE, that after 27 years in the RAF he was not a priority on the Council Housing list. That privilege was reserved for those released from prison!
