Ref: EMS SAR aircrewman
G'Day Mate, I am currently an aircrewman at an EMS Base, I was fortunately able to get my qualifications through the military, but for those like yourself....there are a number of different ways of getting your qualification.
1. Start as a Rescue crewman and after some time with that company they should give you a winch endorsement. This helps with gaining experience in the front seat regarding Co-pilot duties and logging hours. Most EMS bases like to employ aircrewman with min 500hrs, but at this stage there is a shortage of aircrewman so some are heard of employing people with less experience. Most preferred since there is no cost to you.
2. Careflight QLD does aircrew training with some nice added qualifications. The down fall with this is....cost which is no different than other training schools. After qualification is acheived, there is still no guarantee of employment due to lack of experience. However as I mentioned before some companies are employing due to lack of experienced aircrewman. Its your call.
I hope this helps your inquiry
