All done on pilot laptops, which are synchronised with the company server at the start of each duty to get updates. This includes all manuals, notices, forms and also take-off performance software which we use operationally to eak that little extra derate (over and above tabulated data) and hence save on engine wear.

On the aircraft we still have paper manuals, which still seems a necessity. If you are searching for something then there upsides and downsides to each form of medium. Using the laptop allows you to search the PDF manual for exact words and/ or phrases and will result in all the hits listed. Searching the paper manual for all these would take longer. However, by the time you have powered up your laptop you could have found a reference in the paper manual and be reading it!

It takes a bit of getting used to using the laptop for all manuals and it all comes down to usability; ensure that each manual has a good set of bookmarks and the task becomes significantly easier, if it doesn't it becomes a real pain!
