Why train under a new system you ask?
How about they think it will be a cash cow where you can reduce the pay of the employees involved.
QF in particular, think that with the reduced experience required (new starters only) they can pay less for their manpower.
CASA still has not finalised the regulations covering this area, but currently a LAME must be 21 years of age and completed the reqd training, namely a 4 yr apprenticeship and Certificate.
The new training may possibly take only two years max, so there could be kids straight out of school and barely 18 signing for your a/c.
Also, as QF are finding out, there is not "a LAME under every rock".
A similar system to Europe opens up many more potential employees.
And we all know who has better weather.
Just an opinion.
