This business of making extra concessions for holders of ICAO CPL or ATPL used to be officially documented on the CAA website till end of 2006 and then it disappeared. This allowed the holder of any ICAO Class 1 to enter the JAA medical route under the RENEWAL levels, and on those you get demonstrated ability, including NO limits on uncorrected vision and hearing.
It's good to know they still run something like this. I have actually heard this the other day from somebody else too.
