I used to fly from Long Marston in 1988. The airfield owners were not interested in anything to do with aircraft [other than the rent I would presume. Main income was Drag Racing and Sunday Market Trading] The Shackleton, and others arrived and were left to rot. I was told a grant was gained to aid a Museum set-up. Can't see where the money went. There was a mad sky diving club that dropped through cloud on a regular basis. I was watching two sailplanes from Bidford circling nearby under a developing cu when suddenly 5 plunging skydivers appeared, one missing one sailplane by what looked like just a few feet.
I moved to Old Sarum shortly afterwards.
Sad to see such neglect at Long Marston.
