Airport Marketing

Have seen lots of disparaging comments on prune re airport marketing, and those about BOH since the FR base announcement are typical.

Remember that the first job of the airport is to sell to the airline. BOH marketing has done a good job of getting TOM, Wizz, EZY and FR to play along.

Without air services an airport is nothing. Then the airlines and airports can (maybe) work in partnership to promote routes.

Its the job of the airline to sell seats and maybe of the airport to promote routes - but remember BOH management may be constrained from shouting from the rooftops about FR because the airlines compete! FR competes with TOM and EZY and Wizz in one form or another from BOH and elsewhere. No good promoting FR if EZY marketing folks afor example are going to sulk as a consequence.

The place passengers go to look for seats is not generally an airport website, or the airport terminal - it's the airline web site that counts and decent articles in the national and international press.

A good route has originating pax from both ends.

To that point I read a very interesting piece about Bournemouth in the current edition of the Krakow Airport Magazine, tied to the new EZY route - it was hilarious to read... lots about very trare grey squirrells!
