...so we have a new owner and CEO, intent on rebuilding the terminal, which involves rerouting the traffic system, at a time when another regional airport has been car-bombed. How can all that happen overnight?

The old adage in carpentry of 'Measure twice, cut once' surely applies at airport development to an even greater degree. Correspondents are criticising LBIA for not having started to dig roads up and pull walls down immediately. What about the planning process? Surely a bit of thought has to go into it, and that takes time.

Security? Yes the measures appear strange to the uninitiated. But the screening rules are set by the DfT and are not the product of an LBIA manager's deranged imagination. If the airport doesn't comply, it gets penalised. And you can't drive up to the door any longer? Tough. Can you at any other airport? There has been some thought and planning put into the vehicle access procedures but you won't know what the process is because it is, quite rightly, confidential.

There is a genuine intention to move LBIA forward. They don't tell Pprune what is planned and why should they? Yes, LBIA is pretty dire at present but at least give them a chance to get it sorted out.
