If you're implying that the same could happen in Dubai ... Ras Al Khaimah is a far cry from the sophisticated and relatively civilised Emirate of Dubai, both in distance and attitude, as well as their respective interpretation and implementation of Shariah law. The powers that be are far more tolerant in Dubai than their neighbours in Sharjah and even the more distant Abu Dhabi.
Also, double standards are rife in this part of the world - Westerners literally get away with murder - and I would put money (if it was allowed
!) on the woman punished not being of Western origin. Harsh but unfairly true.
