That bit of advertisement is probably only about Bahrain's sole ownership of Gulf Air and nothing else.
I think you are spot on. Bahain now has their own de facto national airline and they are proud of it, nothing wrong with that at all, in fact I congratulate them and wish them all the best. I also believe that as 'expats' we should be thankful that we have jobs in their country and their airline.
