You are absolutely right. I didn't want to go into de-ice and ant-ice differences because of potential thread creep however, I was sorely tempted when parkfell waded in with a somewhat cavalier "turn the boots on at the first sign of icing". Perhaps the experience gap is at work again. It is imperative that the FM usage is adhered. Ice kills.
PS Don't forget the TKS system which works well when needed.
