the big problem as ever was designing a gearbox that can take the loads
If you experts will forgive the intrusion, can someone please explain why the loads are so different to those experienced in, say, a large turbo-prop engine and propeller combination?

Is the reduction ratio very different?

Is the fan weight and/or load much greater, relative to engine power?

I know these are technically ignorant questions; that's because I'm technically ignorant!
