Jetstream rules of thumb??

Hi all,

I have done a search but can't find the answer. I remember during my ATPL study, that there was a rule of thumb regarding temperature and Jet streams. I think it went along the lines of this:

if the OAT is decreasing, then you will fly under a jet stream, if the OAT is rising you will fly above it, and if the OAT is constant you will fly through it.

This was based on the assumption you were in the southern hemisphere and heading towards the pole.

Can anyone out there confirm this as correct (or correct me) and possibly explain why??

Thank you very much.
