BHD hyper extension

Not quite sure if this is thread creep but why are we discussing the extension of BHD when clearly the time has come to close it.

The management of BHD have seen the reason d’etre of travellers using the airport evaporate as Flybe, having joined the race to the bottom have quickly shown an aptitude for alienating their regular customers.

So with business travellers no longer prepared to pay the perceived premium for flying from BHD, why should the airport be allowed to continue let alone be extended?

Previously the covenant between the local community and the airport was one were it was needed for NI plc. Its proximity to the city centre enabled time conscious business people to make the most of their busy schedules – its ease of use made us a little bit closer to the commercial hubs across the water.

The increasing noise and fuel pollution was tolerated because BHD made a difference.

No longer – you queue 45 minutes to check in and another 45 to get through security. I gather with Ryanair you need to arrive the night before to have a chance of cashing in on your tuppence worth.

BHD’s customers are voting with their feet, choosing to fly from BFS.

The response of the BHD management shows complete contempt for their long suffering neighbours.

Why should the people of Sydenham have their quality of life eroded and their property increasingly blighted by flights that entice existing customers of BFS to use BHD to the benefit of nobody other than the shareholders of BHD and Ryanair.

Ryanair could well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back – mines a Harp Laurence.
