Cologne. AE266 was one of two 61 Sqdn Hampdens lost on this operation. Airborne 2318 30Jul41 from North Luffenham. Undershot the runway and crashed 0450 31Jul41 while trying to land at RAF Upwood. F/S Durtnall had survived a serious crash at the beginning of the year (See: X3126) and at the time of his death was approaching the end of his tour of operations. On 18Feb46, Sgt Fillmore's brother, F/L E.G.Fillmore DFC, was killed On Active Service and he is buried in the same grave as Sgt Fillmore at Sudbury Cemetery.
