I think that those 170,000 options of Rod's will be pretty much worthless right now unless he does his job properly and restores some value to the company!

Carnage Matey! there are plenty of senior captains out there who are earning rather a lot more than many (indeed most) of the BA managers. A 'voluntary' reduction from that category would doubtless be most gratefully welcomed - who's going to be first to volunteer?
