Apparently what would be the cats whiskers is having those earplugs which get molded into your ear and therefore take up most of your shell like which then also covers the just outside of your ear canal where you pick up the high pitch noises. Racing drivers and ground crew wear them and we in aviation should have them now really. But they cost £200 a pop apparently which is of course cheaper then loosing your hearing. But convincing the pay master might be tricky.
