FAA,JAA Type rating difference

Whenever you are looking for the jobs in EU everything related to having a type rating says (example): "JAA B737 Type rating".
Does that mean that If I have my JAA licence with CPL/ME/IR and I do my B737 type rating in US in a FAA approved TRO I would not qualify as a potential candidate for the EU job interviews, because I havent done my TR in EU or?
How come then there are pilots who have done their TR in US,Canada,Brazil etc... and still able to get jobs in EU even though they haven't done their JAA TR??

I welcome any ideas or comments...

Cheers
