I didn't (don't) really understand the tax for the pilots. I got the impression that all of a sudden they were (are) being taxed in the UK, the assumption was 'well if that's where you live, then tax should be paid like others do', and it was seen as some sort of pay cut because they are now having to pay tax, whereas before they weren't.
So although based (by CX/choice) in the UK, they don't actually live there! It just sounded like having your cake and eating it. Still none the wiser.
