Speaking of checked luggage, last week I flew from Riga, Latvia, to Prague, The Czech Republic, on CSA, the Czech national airline.
I was continuing to Barcelona, Spain, but had to spend the night night in Prague, because of no connections.
The following morning at 0830 I checked in my one suitcase for the 1100 flight. When I got to Barcelona and my hotel, I opened the suitcase and lo and behold, a carton of smokes, two ties, a belt and a travel alarm clock had gone missing. I spoke to Czech Airlines in Barcelona and they were willing to settle for USD 144.00, but told me not to mention it to Czech police on the way back to Riga.
Now, here is the nithtmare. If luggage handlers in the basement of Prague airport who are paid minimum wage (in this case I hear about USD 1 an hour), what's to prevent them to take something out from somebody's luggage.
On the other hand, the larger problem posed is this: "What's to prevent them from putting something into someones luggage for USD 100!"
