If Silverjet are getting the south stands, why not have the old domestic terminal as well?
Silverjet's occupation of the South Apron is purely for quick access to/from the runway. Its operation doesn't gell with a tarted-up prefabricated building that's well past its sell-by date (which is one - but not the main - reason why Harrods is relocating). Sorry Buster, but its pax requirements and expectations are rather different from those of the late 1980s punters...

Isn't there also enough room to build stands on the western side of taxiway Delta, in between it and the long term car park?
There are plans to construct another six stand apron west of Taxiway Delta and immediately south of the existing East Apron. This would also involve the construction of an additional pier to serve both aprons. However, this plan involves the relocation of the car park and the only alternative design is for a multi-story car park alongside the approach road just inside the Central Terminal Area past the taxiway bridge - but this would necessitate major road modifications and significant costs. No idea of the current status of this particular cunning plan.
