I would drop them a courteous letter stating more or less what you have on here, and ask then if there is any possibilities of getting some work experience, you want to appear keen and I would include a return stamped addressed envelope as well, it will increase your chances of a reply.
Some of the larger airlines do work experience but I would think you will be ok with most companies. Have you tried writing to the likes of Eastern, as they have a base at Newcastle I believe, you may be able to tag on with a line engineeer etc.
