If you go with Lloyds TSB, you can have an offshore account in the Isle of Man or, I think, the Channel Islands. With this, you can have US$, ŁUK and Euro accounts.
You also get 1 or 2 free transfers per month.
Not sure how you would (cheaply) get the money from the $ account to the US but give them a call.
