Originally built by the U.S. in 1942. Churchill airport was eventually operated by the R.C.A.F., and was an important staging base for the construction of radar bases in Canada's north during the Cold War.
The photo was taken in 1955, and shows the R.C.A.F complex.
Churchill is now one of the few remaining Canadian civilian airports operated by the federal government (Transport Canada).
