How many additional movements per hour would be achieved if the taxi-ways were to be extended to the end of the runway, both ends, also, what is the current maximum rate?
As VA says, the achievable movement rate isn't simply down to having the taxiways extended to the runway ends. Apart from removing the airspace bottlenecks and London airports/airfields route interactions, it would be necessary to construct holding areas at each end whereby ATC could then optimise the departure sequence to take best advantage of the one-minute departure intervals that are now permitted at Luton between certain aircraft and certain SIDs (departure routes). Again as VA says, with many aircraft now carrying-out 'balanced field' take-offs from the runway/taxiway intersections, ATC has often exceeded LLAO's currently declared hourly rate of 32 movements. With full-length parallel taxiways, and with holding areas to allow sequencing of departures, assuming that the airspace problems can also be resolved, there's no reason why 40+ hourly movements couldn't be achieved, and with less individual holding at the runway holding points.
