Speaking as one who lost his dad very suddenly as a long established British politician from a sudden heart attack when he appeared to be in good health I can tell you that I didn't watch almost any coverage of politics or UK parliament for about the next year.
In this kind of situation as a relative you know that others will not be hurt by the event the way you are and in general you simply avoid going to the places where you know that their more dispassionate perspective on the death may well cause you personal pain.
