Before anyone gets scared, this advice is good but not mandatory.
They would, nevertheless, be good choices further down stream. I don't know if there is still a first month maths and science module in Nav School. There used to be a self-study guide issued before arrival and you were expected to do this in the first 4 weeks. There were specialist navs who could help.
The book was quite slim, about 64 pages. It had worked examples of maths, and physics especially in electics and trigonometry. The latter might be the first time people had even come across trig.
History is not a bad choce either as it should help hone analysis skills and essay writing.
