Hello flufdriver,

Thanks for your message. I am not an eyewitness and don't quite know what the situation is on the ground in Nicaragua, however, based on newspaper reports the worst seems to be farther north around Puerto Cabezas.

I have posted your comments on Hangar Nica, a Yahoo! Group that I run that deals with Nicaraguan aviation affairs with the hopes that someone more qualified might be able to answer your queries.

In the meantime, there are two official sources that you could contact.

The Empresa Administradora de Aeropuertos Internacionales (EAAI) is responsible for the management of the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua, but also of the airports in Puerto Cabezas, Bluefields and Corn Island. According to their website, the Supervisor of Domestic Airports' telephone number is 505-233-1624, 505-233-1625, 505-233-1626, 505-233-1627 or 505-233-1628, ext. 2278. There is also an e-mail address listed for an EAAI representative at the Bluefields Airport-- [email protected] http://www.eaai.com.ni/

You could also try calling the Instituto Nicaragüense de Aeronáutica Civil (INAC) (the regulatory agency for aeronautics in Nicaragua) at 505-276-8580. http://www.inac.gob.ni/

Thanks again for asking and for wanting to help those who have been affected by this natural disaster.
