What about the cancellation of GIB-MAD then? Was the
poor schedule to blame?
In essence, yes. The trouble was in the event of any problem it had a cascade effecting into the next days opertion - no overnight recovery option.
They were very keen for there to be people based in Gib ASAP, IMO they would have been better to grow the route a tiny bit first and then do it more significantly.
But GB putting a plane in Gib for an early morning departure to the UK was *one* of the aspects that stopped flygib appearing as general competition!
Now that flygib has derailed itself (for a combination of reasons)...
Without there being an overriding reason for it, and when considered on a purely logistics basis - it wasn't that safe or efficient a setup.
