where I fly SOP is you must be stable by 1000' AGL or yo must go around.
For A319 to intercept from above you :
a) dial in altitude above current Alt.
b) select V/S -1500 fpm and pull
c) arm approach mode
d)when you get G/S* set missed approach Alt.
