It might be because that particular rumour stems from misinformation? Please correct me, but for non rescue sorties, ie non critical inter hospital transfers, do the RAF charge as
some air ambulance charities do for this service? I agree with Thud_and_Blunder, it is possibly the lack of standardization and oversight that is the achilles heel of the various air ambulance units.
