Mike:It is a RF-84K, the device infront of the cockpit was to enable airborne hookups to a specially modified B36.

The idea was that the B36 would fly a point well clear from the target, then launch the RF-84K to carry out a photo recce while the mother ship remained at a safe distance.

I think one squadron was formed and flew for a while, but did not stay in service very long.
