REGIONAL RALLY SHERBURN-IN-ELMET 25-26 August 2007
1 ARRANGEMENTS FOR VISITING AIRCRAFT
1.1 Sherburn-in-Elmet will host the August Bank Holiday Regional Rally on 25 and 26 August 2007.The airfield will be open from 0830 local to 1930 local for arrivals and departures.
1.2 The airfield will be operated on an unlicensed basis for the duration of the Rally, special category RFFS cover will be in place.
1.3 There are to be no movements outside the published operating times.
1.4 Pre-registration is requested to assist with administration. A form is available at the end of these instructions and details should be e mailed, faxed or posted to the Aero Club as soon as possible (Fax No. 01977 683699). A telephone booking service will be available during the event (01977 682674) but to assist the admin team you are asked to pre-book using the form wherever possible. PPR is essential.
1.5 Weather information is available on the Sherburn Aero Club website
www.sherburnaeroclub.com or by telephone from the flight centre 01977- 682674. All flights should be conducted under Visual Flight Rules.
1.6 A landing fee of £10.00 for single engine aircraft and £20.00 for twin-engine aircraft is payable on arrival. Half of all landing fees payable will be donated to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Reciprocal agreements to waiver landing fees will not be applicable for the event with the exception of aircraft from the Real Aero Club, Breighton the co-hosts.
1.7 Jet A1 and 100LL fuel is available. Please display a letter ‘F’ in the windscreen after landing to enable the marshallers to direct aircraft appropriately.
1.8 Camping is permitted next to the aircraft in the main parking area. Please display a letter ‘C’ to enable aircraft to be directed by the marshallers. Runway 01/19 will be closed and used for aircraft parking for the rally, it may be necessary to position your aircraft to the main parking area as space becomes available.
1.9 Please display a letter ‘D’ if special assistance is required for disabled occupants.
1.10 Noise Abatement. Sherburn Aero Club is concerned to be a good neighbour in its operations. Pilots are requested to avoid the overflying of local villages Hambleton, Monk Fryston, Sherburn-in-Elmet, South Milford and Lumby. A circuit diagram can be found at the end of these instructions
2 AIRSPACE
2.1 The Sherburn ATZ is wholly contained within the Church Fenton MATZ. It is expected that the MATZ will be closed for the duration of the Rally, however remain clear of the Church Fenton ATZ.
2.2 Burn Glider Launching Site is located 5 NM southwest of Sherburn. Gliders are launched by aero tow or by winch and cable up to 2000ft. Remain clear at all times.
2.3 Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood Airport is situated 20NM miles SSE of Sherburn. No controlled airspace exists outside the ATZ, however for arrivals from the south, we recommend pilots contact Doncaster Approach 126.225 when abeam Gamston and for departures to the south we recommend again contacting Doncaster 126.225 when crossing the M62 south of Ferrybridge.
2.4 Leeds Bradford CTA/CTR Class D airspace boundaries are situated from 7NM west of Sherburn. For transit through this airspace contact Leeds Approach on 123.75.
2.5 It is expected that the Military Airfields north of York will be closed for the duration of the rally. Remain clear of any ATZ’s
3 ARRIVALS
3.1 Call Sherburn Radio on 122.6 for airfield information before reaching the MATZ boundary. All aircraft should enter the Zone at the northern edge of SELBY maintaining 1500 feet for an overhead join, descending dead side to the circuit height of 1000ft. Make usual radio calls overhead, descending dead side, downwind and finals. Do not expect a response except in an emergency. Keep a good lookout at all times.
3.3 Grass runways 29/11 or 24/06 will be available on the days of the Rally. Circuits are LH on runways 29 and 24 and RH on runways 11 and 06. Runway 01/19 will be closed to landing traffic as this will be used for aircraft parking but it will be available for taxying. (See airfield circuit diagram at the end of these instructions) Avoid overflying the villages of Sherburn-in-Elmet, South Milford, Lumby, Monk Fryston, Hambleton and the farm at North Sweeming.
3.4 There is to be no overtaking or orbiting within the circuit.
3.5 In the event of a go around, follow circuit procedure climbing to 1000ft and rejoin downwind, keeping a good lookout for aircraft joining the circuit from the deadside.
3.6 After Landing (See also General instructions for letters to be displayed in windscreen e.g. fuel.)
Runway 29 grass continue straight ahead to end of runway, turn right along runway 06 grass to end and right again onto runway 19 grass closed for rally and follow marshaller’s directions for parking.
Runway 24 grass continue to end of runway, turn left along 11 grass to end and left again along 01 taxiway and follow marshallers directions for parking
Runway 11 grass continue to end of runway and turn left along 01 taxiway and follow marshallers directions for parking
Runway 06 grass continue to end of runway, turn right along 19 taxiway and follow marshallers directions for parking.
Please note pilots are responsible for maintaining adequate wingtip clearances and if in doubt, shut down and manhandle aircraft into position.
3.7 Pilots of aircraft parked on grass runway 01/19 will be required to cross an active taxiway in order to reach the Clubhouse and the Exhibitors. Please follow the marshallers directions and cross promptly when instructed, keeping a good lookout.
3.8 In the event of a radio failure or if non radio, follow the above procedures keeping a good lookout and fit in with the radio equipped aircraft. Non-radio aircraft have priority over radio equipped aircraft- land when the runway is clear.
4 DEPARTURES
4.1 Book out with Control who will provide departure information. Monitor 122.60 and follow marshallers directions to runway holding point using non-active runways/taxiways. Please ensure all power checks are completed before reaching the hold.
4.3 If Mass Departure procedures are in force, details will be transmitted on 122.60. You will be lined up and waved off by hand. Crossed arms will mean stop and hold position. Continue to monitor radio frequency. Any aircraft wishing to join and land on hearing ‘Mass Departure Procedures in force’ can expect to be held off until the procedure is complete.
4.4 If Mass Departure Procedures are not in force, report ready for departure and line up, giving way to landing aircraft. Take off at your discretion.
4.5 After take off, climb to the circuit height of 1000ft, maintain and depart the MATZ via Ferrybridge Power Station.

5 OTHER INFORMATION
5.1 Only pilots and passengers of participating aircraft and members of the PFA will be allowed airside, the latter on production of their PFA Membership Cards. Members of the public will not be permitted airside unescorted though Marshallers will be organised to take small parties on tours around the visiting aircraft.
5.2 Marshallers will wear high viz ORANGE smocks to enable them to be readily identified
5.3 There will be a number of prizes awarded at the Rally, judged by Sherburn volunteers and PFA stewards e.g. best aircraft, furthest travelled etc,
5.4 Visitors by road will charged an admission fee of £5.00 per adult and £2.00 per child under 15. Car parking is adjacent to the airfield on the vehicle testing ground. Entry via the approach road to the airfield Lennerton Lane off the B1222 Sherburn to Cawood Road.
